Confessions of a Fitness Junkie

Hi. I’m Mindy, and I’m a fitness junkie.

In May of 2010, my husband and I made the decision to join the gym near our home. This wasn’t some crazy, life-or-death decision we had to make. Just a small, mid-year resolution to get into shape. What a big difference that decision made.

Upon joining the gym, we decided to take advantage of the “free” personal training session we were offered. It was during our fitness assessment I learned what kind of shape I was really in (which was not that great!). I always thought I was in pretty decent shape – I mean, it wasn’t like I sat around on my butt all day doing nothing! I went for a jog every once in a while, maybe did a few sit-ups and push-ups now and then. And I could dance my way through a 4-5 minute dance break in a Broadway musical without completely losing my breath, so I thought I was ok. But, that was the problem. I was just ok. Not great. OK.

My hubby’s story is a little different. He’s seen what heart disease can do to a person (and their family). He made the personal decision to lead a healthier life so he wouldn’t have to deal with that situation in the future. And I wanted to support him in his resolve to lead a healthier life.

So, we hired a personal trainer. For the past year now, our trainer has happily handed us our butts for 30 minutes every week. She’s also been amazing with coaching us on our diet and other healthy lifestyle changes. And the results have been better than we could have hoped for.

All of this has led to my fascination (obsession?) with all things fitness and health and wellness. There are so many good blogs, articles, websites out there, I just want to share all of this new information I’ve come across. Also, as I re-evaluate my fitness goals and come up with new ones (I’m currently training to run a half marathon!), I’d like to give myself a way to be more accountable to myself by sharing my accomplishments/set backs with others.

I hope you enjoy reading what I have to say! And, maybe some of the information I find useful will be useful to you, too.
